The New York Times reminds us from where the real anti-religious bias will come

Charles M. Blow is the New York Times’  “visual Op-Ed columnist,” whatever that means.  Perhaps to the Times’ chagrin, he also has a Twitter account.  About 20 minutes ago he tweeted this:

Let me just tell you this Mitt “Muddle Mouth”: I’m a single parent and my kids are *amazing*! Stick that in your magic underwear. #CNNdebate

I’m quoting Mr. Blow just in case he tries to delete the tweet, linked here.  Jim Geraghty also captures the tweet image for posterity.  Geraghty appropriately asks a few questions:

We just witnessed ESPN firing an employee for using the phrase “chink in the armor” in a headline about the New York Knicks’ Jeremy Lin. While no one could prove a desire to mock Lin’s ethnic heritage, and the employee expressed great regret for what he insisted was an unthinking lapse, it was deemed unacceptable even as an honest mistake. Regardless of what one thinks of ESPN’s reaction, one is left to marvel at the contrast before us. Would the New York Times find it acceptable if one of their columnists chose to mock Muslim religious practices? Jewish faith practices?

But mocking some religions is okay? Doesn’t run afoul of any standards of the paper?

This will be interesting to watch. What will the Times do? Anything? Is this the sort of journalism we can expect if Romney is the GOP nominee?

If any of our readers wish to tell the Times how they feel about Mr. Blow’s tweet, you can reach Arthur Brisbane, the newspaper’s Public Editor, at public@nytimes.com.

What is MORE disturbing is that NUMEROUS followers of Blow are celebrating his comment(!) He has opened the floodgates to all the disgusting miscreants as he has signaled that this behavior is A-OK.

I have little doubt that, even on the right, the silence will be deafening. This type of thing is all too common on both sides of the aisle.
