They Keep Writing, So We Have To Keep Covering…

It’s the holiday and nobody is really paying attention, and yet….  So we dive in, but we’ll be brief.

Romney

Endorsed by former POTUS George HW Bush.  Does it matter?  Probably not on a retail level, but to insiders and old farts like me it means a lot.

And speaking of high profile endorsements, Chris Christie is not ruling out the Veep slot.  An at the convention Veep campaign – Christie v Rubio – would be up there with the “Thrilla in Manila.”  That would be a political fight for the ages.  I’d give the nod to Christie in the trenches, but Rubio may be more important on the retail level, so the nominee’s choice is way up in the air.

I guess Romney was not a great missionary?!

What’s that old line about protesting too much?  Here’s a tip – if your argument against Romney is political/policy based, DON”T BRING UP RELIGION!  It’s what they call in poker “a tell.”

How Not To Win A Primary…

Write racist newsletters

Fail to qualify for the ballot.

It’s the little things.

How To Make a Fool Of Yourself…

Get your group all confused.

Bring up really old stuff, that was not as bad as you think it was.

Well, sometimes it’s your job.

Think EVERYTHING revolves around your sexual orientation.

Do I need to explain this one?

Religion and Politics

Looking for causation where only correlation exists…

in Catholics.

in Mormons.

This makes sense.

And now, back to the festivities.

Romney has made a good case about economic theory but the ordinary man and woman has a hard time understanding how it relates to them. Each time I watch Mitt at a townhall he stresses the importance of a merit based rather than entitlement society. Sounds great and those of us who own or have owned small business understand what he means. However those can not relate are left wondering how they will pay next months bills. Mitt never talks to that. Maybe because he has no answer.

A close relative, in fact a couple of them, are middle aged people with serious medical conditions and no insurance. One is a recent widow living on unemployment and no prospects for a job. She is not employable and does not qualify for social security or other benefits. To her, Obama looks like the difference between life and death in a very real way. She isn’t alone either. Middle age people with medical conditions will hard pressed to find a job any time soon – even in a good economy. So when Mitt talks about stopping ObamaCare on day one and has never speaks about what he will replace it with, if anything, she thinks Barry is her only hope of staying alive.

All the missions in Europe have difficulty in finding people willing to sit down with the Mormon missionaries and learn what the CJCLDS believes. That has been true for decades. The investment of time by Mormon missionaries in trying find those willing to investigate the Church, let alone join, is in the thousands of hours for each convert baptism. That contrasts with much of Latin America and Africa, and for that matter Utah, where the influx of people from other states has been a fruitful field for conversions. No matter how hard the missionary works, the receptivity of people in their culture makes a huge difference.

That baseline makes the increase in conversions when the young Romney was leading the mission all the more remarkable.

Regarding the link to the Fred Karger campaign…

Can you imagine that there is an officially registered candidate for President of the United States whose campaign exists to disparage the Mormon religion and keep a Mormon candidate out of the White House?

Well, I guess I can’t say it’s the first time.
