As long as the GOP establishment–which sees itself as more politically astute (as it ought to be as a “real” political party with a history) than the conservative populists whose votes they absolutely depend on for any success at all–refuses to acknowledge and address in substantive ways the reasons for the disaffection felt by many conservatives, the Republican Party risks perpetuating and even widening the rift, which leads to political suicide for them and a quixotic, but nevertheless losing, quest by the Tea Party conservatives.
