The passing of Richard John Neuhaus leaves very big shoes to fill. I have not always agreed with him–indeed I cancelled my subscription to First Things; but he brought a great deal of intellectual weight to the importance of religious voices in advancing the public good. I have eagerly awaited his book in progress–tentatively titled American Babylon: Notes of a Christian Exile–which he hoped to have ready for publication early this year, having published several essays on the topic at the On the Square Blog ofFirst Things. I certainly hope we may still see a posthumous publication.
