Well first of all, see the New York Times article on the Mormon Church’s support of Proposition 8 (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/15/us/politics/15marriage.html?hp). It is clear that the Mormon church played a disproportionate role in contributing to the effort to pass Prop 8. Thus, no one should be surprised or defensive at protests at temples, Mormon-owned businesses, etc. This is the price paid when churches enter the political arena, and they richly deserve it. These protests will continue to grow and will have an impact on the Mormon’s already-bad reputation as agents of intolerance. Now, regarding the fear that Mormon churches (or any other churches) would be “forced” to perform same-sex weddings, that is simply untrue. This has not happened in MA or CT, nor is there any pending lawsuit regarding this issue. Can’t happen, won’t happen. The issue was manufactured to scare people, along the lines of “your daughter could be forced to marry a black man.” Fantasy based on fear of the unknown.

So, I would say to the Mormons who are “shocked, shocked” that protests are occurring because of their role in passing Prop 8, “What on earth did you expect when you move to deprive a minority of civil rights?” Get over it.

If I’m not mistaken, Mr. Mann is what is commonly referred to in the blogosphere as a troll. However, there is no mistaking the fallacious nature of his argument. Civil rights plays no part in this debate. Homosexuals have always had the same marriage rights as everyone else. What is at issue is the definition of marriage.

The other side knows that they don’t even make it to first base on that point, so they fabricated a fraudulent civil rights argument as a diversion. What is truly amazing is the number of otherwise intelligent people that have been fooled by it.

Sorry Mr. Mann but you are in so many ways incorrect, misinformed and misleading by your message. The case on education on this matter has alrady been PROVEN in Mass. and teachers here in CA I’ve talked to have already got books in libraries and have been told what would be taught. Many parent’s sign a blanket permissions slip (hence the Gay wedding attendance by a bunch of children). Which means they won’t know what they’re being taught unless they find out when their 2st grader comes home. They can’t ‘opt out’ if they don’t know.

But ist IS a fact that childern WILL be taught that Tom and Bob’s marriage is the same as Mommy & Daddy’s, and then the questions come. Where do babies come from….well then how did they have a bay? and so on and so on. Prop 7 IS the way it should be and just as many people if not more will spend just as much time and money and door to door and calls to make sure it stays that way.

The NO on Prop 8 crowd professed ‘tolerance’ and so forth. Weill they sure are showing it now aren’t they? Wow: what an example to show to people. Before the vote each side had their own rallies and as soon as your side lost – for the SECOND time by public popular VOTE – they went on rampages that have now threatened people, directed their outrage at the Mormon Church, with misinformation that the church itself put money toward the Yes vote. It did not : it’s members, who believe in traditional marriage did.

As did those of other faiths and groups. The members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (if you’re going to use the name of the Church use the right one – Mormon was a nickname given years ago but is NOT the name of the Church)were not the only people going door to door, making phone calls, or donating money; persons of other faiths were in on that as well. You could go to the Republican HQ and find they’d run out of signs, bumper stickers and had to replenish their supplies daily.

My car has Yes on rop 8 bumper stickers on it and I’ve had experiences 2x in 2 days of one man in a big truck flying past me changing lanes attempting to hit me, block my ability to ride in a single lane and so forth. When at a stop sign, I took my phone and put my head out to get his license plate – he took off but his agenda was to scare, threaten and and or hurt me and get away with it.

The outrageous actions by a bunch of sore losers who already have every right of marriage through the Domestic Partnership law, want marriage? Marriage is something that is not ordained by civil rights but has been defined as between a man and a woman since the beginning of time.

If the opposition think they’re unruly, outrageous and threatening mob behavior and terrorist actions are gong to bring people to their side, it will do just the opposite. During the LA protests on the LA Temple (all their protests have violated the laws of peaceful protests and they should be arrested) there were people there and police officers who asked the security gauarsfor Books of Mormon and for missionaries to come teach them so they could join he church. This has happened regularly. I have had several people come to church and prepare to learn and be Baptized members ever since they asked what is Prop 8 and asked about the church. So they are actually doing the opposite of what they want: they are encouraging people to join the church.

The No on Prop 8 folks insist that we are taking away their civil right to being married. No they can have their ceremonies and commitment ceremonies but they can’t call it marriage. In 2000 We WON! In 2008 0 We WON AGAIN, For those of use who did not get the president we voted for, you don’t see us out on the streets acting lie unruly animals setting an example of non tolerance, setting an example to their own children and ‘supporters’ that they are just sore losers who want their beliefs thrown down everyone elses throat, and want to FIGHT everything and everyone that doesn’t agree with their behavior or acts that are shoved down our throats in every TV show SoAP, commercial and all other media at all times of the day. Now every show has to have a black person , Hispanic person, the token white person and a gay person. What i DON’T see are the representatives of the larger populations than gays: the deaf and disabled being represented. THAT is a step o n someone’s civil right to be represented equally.

You are also very incorrect in stating that churches wouldn’t suffer nor lose their tax exempt status if same sec couples went to any churh and watd to get married and got turned dow based on the churches beliefs. You’re misinformed but not stupid. You KNOW that if it did not pass they would target the Mormon church who would not perform these ceremonies and follow the commandments and take a vow of chastity.

Homosexuality, as quoted by many gays in he news, in papers, interviews and s and so forth is: “ALL about sex”, and “sexual preference”. As soon a church did not agree to perform such unions; the gay community would call on Gloria Allred – who thinks she is THE voice for the ‘minority’ (but she doesn’t take anything but cases that willl get HER attention) to sue the church.

This is a FACT. It is an absolute considering how the gay community works. ‘ If we don’t win we will make anyone who voted against us pay’. That is how they work on any issue. ‘Get fire from your job?? SURELY it couldn’t be that you stink at the job – no? Sue the company because they fired me because I’m gay!”

You know very well that the homosexual community (following their behaviors in their mob marches, mob mentality and their example of their unruly, illegal and threatening behavior now) would indeed file lawsuits against ANYONE for any reason.

But the same doesn’t seem to hold true on the other side here. You are mobbing in the streets, closing down major streets, defacing private property and threatening people and churches, and targeting people etc.. All of this unrest and protests WITHOUT ONE PERMIT and yet they’re not being arrested??? If anyone comes near me, my car or threatesn me I will make SURE they are arrested and civil lawsuits filed, and have people arresed for their heinous behavior that they are doing all over the country based on a CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION that again, you lost in 2000 AND in 08. YOU GET OVER IT.

But all this behavior and actions for every one person out there MORE and MORE are joining the church. You may fight on the streets but we will fight in court because we’re fighting God’s fight and for the very
fabric of America for which it was based.

Our money says “In God We Trust” in courts we hold our hand on a bible and take an oath to tell the tuth, and so forth. But if the LGBTG (which in itself is crazy – a man who keeps his vagina but can get legally married and has baby and they call ‘him’ a woman she n she’s just a hairy she is gross’

There are so many Psychologically damaged individuals in this ‘community’ – I have 2 PhD’s so I do know that is a fact) that IF they even believed in God in any way they wouldn’t be doing what they’re doing, losing and mobbing streets and people. I get harassed for having a Yes on 8 sticker on my car but any time I’ve seen any reference on a car or gay couple in restaurants etc, ad I don;t go over and say it’s wrong, or get in their face. We truly love all our brothers ans and sisters of God, we dom’g have o attack them, but have them a s friends, family members and so forth. It shows you they don’t do as they say, they just do as they do no matter what, and just want to pounce,

But you sure are misinformed on everything you wrote.
Clearly you are unaware of recent news that the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints is losing it’s tax exempt stats in he UK. With some new cocka mamie statement the queen said that the church doesn’t not follow the rules other churches in he UK follows. The church has existed in England fro a very long time gut amazing: right during the protests: she made this up to follow the popular vote so her country does not have to deal with what we are at ay time in the future.

We will probably see the same in other places JUST TO AVOID what we are going through right now. However for every one that protests and threatens and shows this as their true colors (and they’re not representative of what the word gay was originally is listed as in the dictionary – nor what the rainbow used o represent as peace etc.and now a soccer mom who happens to LIKE rainbows is mistakenly looked at as homosexual. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
Your side is grossly misinformed and act on that misinformation ither because you feel “everyone should have whatever they want”. Does that mean that since it says a man an da woman a brother can marry ther sister etc? Hmm probably do.

GET INFORMED GET OFF THE STREETS and YOU ALL – FINALLY AFTER 2 MAJOR LOSSES – G E T O V E R I T ALL. Closet World has inexpensive closet organizers – perhaps you all should order one and get on back in there!!!!!

LDS Biker Barbie, This excessive defensive approach to an obvious and harmless troll is one that you should quell if you wish to be taken seriously in the sane conversations you hope to spark concerning your faith. One thing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has ALWAYS had going for it is its rational calm in the face of oppression and sabotage; its non-sensationalist down-to-Earth ideals. Everywhere we are surrounded by political, ideological, and religious groups who stir their constituents to a confused support of the group by sensationalist proclamations of their version of “truth.” When proclaiming real truth, God’s truth, the wrong approach is to be loud and defensive and to spout accusations. The Holy Ghost will confirm the truth of ALL true things ONLY if its still, small voice can be heard. It is incumbent of us to foster an environment in which that voice can be felt, and shun the sensationalist tactics employed by those who oppose truth.
