If Huckabee Loses New Hampshire, Is That God’s Will Too?

In the Pensito Review, Jon Ponder quotes Huckabee:

There’s only one explanation for it, and it’s not a human one. It’s the same power that helped the little boy with two fish and five loaves feed a crowd of 5,000 people. And that’s the only way our campaign could be doing what it’s doing.

I can live with that. One of Huckabee’s supporters suggests Huck is God’s candidate. OK. As long as he is also willing to acknowledge that whoever is elected is God’s choice. If it is Romney or Rudy then Huckabee has to acknowledge they are preferred by God over him. If it is Hillary or Edwards then all the radical left’s agenda must also be God’s will. Of course neither Huckabee nor his supporter would acknowledge such a thing. We all know it is just youthful exuberance and a willingness on Huckabee’s part to acknowledge God’s hand in all things – which is fine. I agree. It is all part of the fun. No one takes it seriously. Acknowledging God even in our fun is appropriate, just as long as we don’t confuse fun with truth.

Of course, no pundit has ever been even slightly confused about the reason for Huckabee’s success. It is quite simple: Christianist voters rejected the other candidates one by one — Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Brownback and Thompson — because they found them all to be insufficiently doctrinaire about the right wing’s bizarre hate-filled version of Christ’s teachings. Huckabee became their only choice by default.

He puts Mormons in with the right wing Christian zealots. Ponder must all believe think alike. I am not sure which part of that insults Christians more – being called right wing zealots or being lumped in with Mormons
