RAMZY BAROUD writes in the Jan 8 edition of Today’s Zaman

Imagine, for instance, the sort of chances a presidential candidate would have as a dedicated atheist, or worse, as a devout Muslim.

Baroud makes a good point, however non-Muslims don’t fear Muslims because they worship God differently, they fear Sharia Law. They fear Muslim proclamations to take over the world and impose Islam at the point of gun. They fear a Muslim caliphate subjecting non-believers to second class citizen status. They fear Muslims for their support of suicide bombers and those willing to kill their own children in pursuit of political goals. They fear Muslims who let teenage girls burn to death in school because they are not dressed correctly. They fear the religion that makes it OK for a father to murder his own daughter. They fear Islam for the way Muslims treat women. They fear Islam for the Korans depiction of Jews and making it OK to kill them wantonly. They fear Islam because it formally incorporates religion and politics. Unless and until a Muslim rejects these aspects of his religion and takes an active high profile position against terrorists and terrorism as the rest of America sees it, I don’t think he stands any chance of being accepted as a legitimate candidate in either party.
