Glenn Beck and Huckabee: A Question of Empathy

Posted by: Lowell Brown at 11:35 pm, December 23rd 2007     —    2 Comments »

I’ve never seen the Glenn Beck Show– not that I am avoiding it; it’s just that my TV viewing time is very limited. A friend sent me a link to this Beck program transcript describing a Beck-Huckabee encounter.  It seems relevant to The Question. It’s also impossible to excerpt (I tried). If you’re interested in what we do here, I recommend you read the whole thing.

Huck in a way reminds me of a prisoner on death row who wrote a poem for me. I worked there for a short while many years ago. He was a very engaging man. He killed three people that we know of, but still he is a very easy guy to talk and listen to. Huck is not a killer and I make no such comparisons, but the same quick smile, affable, folksy demeanor made it easy to let your guard down.

But when he was upset, the real evil in this guy came out. You saw something in him that was dark and malevolent. The face he wanted you to see was not his real face. That is what I think I see in Huck. His public face is not his real face. The dark part of him is his hatred for people he does not like. Sometime, somewhere, someone is going to record him when he thinks no one is listening or watching and then we will see a different Mike Huckabee.

If posting Huckabees’ voting record is viewed as being negative information, maybe the Huckster shouldn’t have voted that way. If he is proud of his voting record on immigration and taxes, then the ads are anything but negative. Just comparisons, so people can know where each candidate stands.

Speaking of negativity, Huckabee, (the former Baptist preacher, for any of you who have missed that pandering), makes negative comments about Mormons constantly through innuendo and sly questions, such as the Jesus/Satan thing. Then he pretends (remember, he is a former Baptist Preacher, just in case you didn’t figure this out the first time I said it) that he knows little about Mormons and their beliefs. Yes, this is the same Huckabee (the former Baptist Preacher) who went to the Salt Lake City Southern Baptists Convention and preached anti-Mormon garbage there.

Not that religion has anything to do with qualifications for President of the United States, but you would think that Huckabee (you know, . . .The former Baptist Preacher), being all righteous and above all the negativity, would at least let us know what his real qualification are to run the country, balance the budget, end the war, lower taxes, etc.

Hey, lets just all go vote for him because, you know, he is a former Baptist Preacher (Christian and all), just like us!
