Panic Sets In…

As discussion of Romney's religion gets less and less, the media panics.  "Maybe if we print the same thing over and over and over again we can keep people interested?!"

The lack of imagination amongst the MSM is amazing.  The Question is FAR FROM DEAD, but they have beaten the "Evangelicals are bigots," "JFK parallel," "need a speech" angles absolutely to death.  I still think dirty tricks, and code words (like "nice") will be the new angles where this comes from.  To my mind the only real question is, with McCain out, where will the dirty tricks comes from? – Thompson (Guiliani has sworn he won't play and has so far been good to his word, so I have to figure) or Hillary – well there really is no question about Hillary other than "When?"

But then there are also the uninformative, but with a proper perspective, pieces like this one out of San Antonio.

I Don't Get This…

An evangelical magazine carries a piece denouncing Mormonism, in purely religious terms, but says this:

Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts, is a member in good standing of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In fact, the Romney name is well known in the leadership of the Church at its highest levels. Romney's run for the White House has inevitably raised the issue of Mormonism, its teachings, and its relationship to Christianity. The resultant discussions have only shown that even when it comes to groups that have historically been identified as "cults," far outside even the most pliable definitions of orthodoxy, almost anything is fair game today. The discernment level in the media is not surprising. "Well, they say they believe in Jesus, and that is all that matters" makes sense coming from people who have never read more than two paragraphs of the Scriptures.

But it is the response of men within what was once broadly known as "evangelicalism" that makes the serious minded believer cringe in surprise. Clearly, the average conservative Christian today has little firsthand knowledge of Mormon theology and belief, and when that is combined with a functional non-Trinitarianism in many churches (that is, few today place a high value on theology proper, the doctrine of God, and a large portion of those attending services in churches in America today could not provide you with an orthodox definition of the Christian God's Triune nature), the resultant confusion is understandable. But when Christian leaders who should value the truth of God’s self-revealed nature and who should recognize the importance of God’s honor that is so completely denigrated by Mormon teachings and theology are the very ones placing “friendship” and “ecumenism” above God’s truth.

I truly don't get this.  I haven't heard anybody talk about "ecumenism" with the Mormons.  Heck, I'm pretty convinced the Mormons would be offended by that.  They don't want to join with us.  But "friendship"?????  What, we can't even be friends with people that do not believe exactly as we do? (Note to Lowell – we're in deep trouble now).  I wonder if this guy knows how foolish he looks?

Finally…

And people are worried about where Romney will take orders from?!?!?!?!?

John: I certainly hope that the well meaning, but uneducated, Christians that have tried to place the Latter Day Saints outside of Christianity, will see what they are doing to the faith they hold so dear. They are denying the very essence of what it means to be a follower of Christ by their intolerance. They show the same degree of misunderstanding of the message, that Christ brought, as the religious leaders of His day did.

When Christ taught the people only a few believed and followed him. The Spirit of Truth testified and those that were spiritually in tune followed the Lord. There was no coercion or force involved.

Mitt Romney has a testimony of the gospel that he relies upon to lead him. It is his and it is unique to him, as mine is to me. It comes from living your life by guiding principles. This means that each of us are at different levels of growth in our march toward eternal life.

This sets up an interesting set of circumstances. Our Constitution forbids a test on religion, by the government, but each of us, individually, have to decide where we stand on church membership and doctrines. Faith issues that influence the direction of our nation.

Mormons do not ascribe to the Triune God, given to us by the Council of Nicene. If others can understand what it is talking about and accept it as defining God, than they should follow it. Mormons will go it alone and follow the teaching that have brought the church forward to this day. We welcome all who are seeking truth, instead of confusion.

I support Gov. Romney because I trust him to be honest in ALL that he does. If he is not successful in his quest, so be it. The people of this nation need to come to know there is a difference in the candidates and then decide for themselves, who should lead.
