Today’s Reading List - August 9, 2007

Today's The Day

See Lowell and I live at the Sunstone Magazine Symposium - plenary session, tonight, 8:00 PM (MDT), Salt Lake City Sheraton.

AMBUSHED!

That is the word that Hugh Hewitt used, I think accurately, regarding yesterday's question to Romney about his son's military service.  A Townhall writer mentions Romney getting out of service because of his Mormon mission.  Back when the Boston Globe did their "profile" they attempted to make hay of that fact.  Didn't work then - SURE won't work for his kids.

Rumors and Rumors of Rumors

A columnist out of Philly, and widely syndicated for this column, reports rumors of the much-desired "JFK speech" - along with some typically uninsightful analysis.  But in the wake of that Paul Bedard at CBS hints that the Iowa Radio showdown may have fit the bill.  (Gee, I seem to recall something about "counter-punching" from this blog.  New media wins - AGAIN!)

But most interesting, The Christian Science Monitor, does just about the best, most thorough, and least breathless, piece on The Question I have seen to date.  They cover the major issues that have arisen around The Question and, through quotation and excellent research, provide Romney's responses.  Who needs a speech when a newspaper will do it for you?

Finally…

Jimmy Breslin makes little sense to me as he appears to argue that by punting on the straw poll this weekend, Guiliani is handing the election to Romney.  What is baffling, is despite his apparent admiration for Romney's campaign, the word Mormon appears more times than virtually any op-ed/column I have seen written of this length - ever.  Which makes me wonder about what Breslin's real point is?
