Live Blogging The Reagan Library Debate…
5:22PM – Chris Matthews just made a jerk of himself asking about whether the constitution should be amended to allow Schwarzenegger to run, starting with Romney, and the wisecrack about divine inspiration of the Constitution. Romney laughed it off, which was really the only gracious possible response, but it was just stupid…
5:32PM – Romney held true to form on abortion.
5:38PM – Matthews won't leave it alone. Asking Romney about Catholic policy! Romey nailed it talking about separation and unity in the public forum. And now he is calling out Huckabee. Huckabee, sadly is taking the bait trying to say Romney is "insincere" about his faith. Matthews just threw it back to Romney and Romney is staying on message. Brownback is very smartly coming to Romney's side, carefully differentiating himself from Huckabee.
Lowell adds: Shame on both Matthews and Huckabee!
6:11PM – I am listening to Hugh Hewitt take calls as the debate continues. His callers and commenters have Romney doing very well.
I gotta think Romney got the biggest boost tonight, and Huckabee looked good, but taking Matthews bait on The Question is gonna cost him.
Lowell: I was surprised that Matthews forced that issue and surprised that Huckabee took the bait. Reflecting on it now, I wonder why I was surprised . . . .
