A Quick Thought On Easter Weekend

As I sit in my hotel on vacation and surf the news channels this holiest of weekends, I have been greeted with piece after piece after piece searching for "rational" reasons for religion, or just exploring faith as some sort of "oddity."  These pieces are focusing on the more recognized sects – Roman Catholicism or evangelical churches of all sorts.  And every one of the pieces talks about my creedal faith with the same tones and same incredulity that so many of my creedal Christian brethren express about the LDS.

I cannot help but be struck by the fact that truth claims aside, there is the simple matter of human respect.  Picking apart someone's most cherished faith as if it were a frog on the disection table, a method that reduces the vital to the listless, the living to the dead, is just disrespectful and dehumanizing.

Any creedal Christian that would disqualify Romney, or any other candidate, on the basis of their faith, should spend this weekend watching television.  I think they will work very hard to find other ways to consider candidates after that.
