Today’s Reading List - February 5, 2007
Jim Geraghty interviews Gov. Romney. No religion question, consequently the interview is very substantive.
A MIRACLE! I agree with this put out by American United For Separation of Church and State. Of course, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Speaking of the silly left, it was not so long ago Andrew Sullivan declared Romney a "Christianist" - now he is declaring Romney and "Christianists" at odds. He can't even keep his own insults straight!
A college paper looks at Mormonism in the wake of Romney's campaign. Seems fair to me, Lowell?
Lowell: It sure is.
The Question in Kentucky. One of the better pieces I've seen from a local paper.
Lowell: Again, I agree.
The SLTrib on the stump with Romney. Apparently, The Question is much bigger with the chattering classes than with the electorate. But then, are we surprised?
Lowell: It's important to understand that in Salt Lake City (my home town) people see religious issues everywhere. Conflict between Mormons and members of other faiths (or members of no faith at all) is a subject of surpassing interest to the Salt Lake Tribune. The Question will always be mentioned in Trib articles about Romney.
Romney gets increasingly active in Arizona. It is refreshing that this article does not turn the obvious into an issue. Despite it being McCain's home state and perhaps the one place he is a presumptive favorite to win the primary, it has a lot of potential for Romney because of the very high Mormon population there. That said; however, I hope Mormons are smarter than to vote for Romney just because he is a Mormon, like I hope creedals will not exclude him for same.
McCain looks to play rough. But then it's a rough game.
More name recognition polling. I don't care how they phrase the question, until all the names are known more broadly all a poll will tell you is who is most broadly known.
Richard John Neuhaus about Christians and Jews. It makes me sad to see all the guises of distrust between the two groups through the centuries. Here's hoping creedal Christian/Mormon understanding can become firmer more rapidly.
The New York Sun asks the same questions and gets the same answers, in re: The Question. Is there one reporter out there with an original approach? Just one?
Rep. John Campbell is behind Romney - for us Californians, that's a huge get.
The view from Russia. Even they think Joe Biden the campaign jester.
The view from London - this appears to me to be the recent AP piece that is circulating reworked by a Telegraph beat reporter. There is abosolutely nothing original in it, even the quotes.
