Some creedal Christian academics on Romney. The "flip-flop" issue sits there, but at least they correctly dismiss the religion issue.
Davids, who is also president-elect of the Christian Legal Society, said he did not see Romney's religious affiliation as a major obstacle to the Republican nomination, since Mormons and evangelicals tend to embrace similar views on important cultural matters.
Prior to joining Regent in 2003, Davids served as deputy director of the Justice Department's Task Force for the Faith-Based and Community Initiative. While serving in that capacity, he said he became acquainted with Mormons who were working in the Bush administration.
"I found myself on the same side as they were on, [on] virtually every issue," he said. "Evangelical Christians and Mormons look at the world very similarly."
Assembling part of the team. And now that it's "official" their job security is a little better.
Rick Warren on Charlie Rose on religion in public life. This evangelical Presbyterian is not a whole-hog endorser of Warren, but this is a decent primer on creedal Christian engagement in the public square. Warren was also one of the first prominent Evangelicals to say Romney's religion was not an issue.
Update from Lowell: The Hotline ranks the presidential contenders in both parties. (Romney is tied for second, behind McCain, with Giuliani.)
Hugh Hewitt interviews Mark Steyn, who says:
Mitt Romney I like, but in many ways, because I think his kind of Mormonism is the least problematic baggage of the major candidates.
Hmm. In other words, Steyn thinks, The Question is a problem, but the other guys have bigger problems.
