Today’s Reading List – September 14, 2006
If Chafee is a "moderate" Republican any such labeling of Romney has become meaningless.
This is pretty much ridicule the media day here at Article VI. The above item shows they don't have a clue as to what is and is not a moderate stance for the GOP. This item begs a question – what in the world is the BBC doing giving headline coverage to a primary victory by a sitting Senator? Could they be playing favorites? Mark Daniels seems to think so. Lowell: One can almost hear in the background the popping of champaigne corks.
I can't even prentend to be sarcastic or make fun of this one. Near breathless coverage from Minnesota of the likely election of a Muslim to Congress. When they write of a Mormon, they seriously wonder if one can be elected, but a Muslim? – "Oh, How Wonderful!"
Lowell: I was thinking the same thing. In the philosophical debates here and elsewhere over when and whether a candidate's religion should matter, many suggested that a religious commitment to Islam should be cause for concern. Not a word about that regarding Mr. Ellison's ascendancy.
Next Item:
"As a society we are in danger of suffering from collective amnesia when it comes to considering the work of those who have uncovered the purposes of God in our history, and in particular seem to have airbrushed from history the motivation of these social pioneers who have been inspired to act by a passionate and vivid faith in God."
– The Archbishop of York. Sounds right to me.
Romney sounding very fiscally conservative. Lowell: Yes, and one suspects that Romney's fellow "moderate" Lincoln Chafee does not share his views on budgetary matters.
