Today’s Reading List - August 11, 2006
There is such a thing as an Evangelical Left and the “left” or “right” label is beginning to take on greater importance than the Evangelical label. That’s the problem when religion and politcs mix. Believe it or not, the reason I am here is to protect the church from losing its way in politics. (HT: Between Two Worlds) Lowell: Hear! Hear!
Once again, Lowell’s prophetic powers are evident. Yesterday he quipped
Do we really know that’s true? Aren’t a lot of evangelicals annoyed that such attitudes are ascribed to them?
And along comes my aquaintance John Mark Reynolds with a post on the Evangelical view of the Romney candidacy fully titled:
Romney in the Dock:
Or Are Traditional Christians in the Dock?
Yes, JMR is a little peevish about the attitude.
Lowell: I think this is an important piece. It is certainly the most thoughtful I have seen yet, on several subjects: When does a presidential candidate’s religion matter, if ever? Should Romney’s religion matter? And are traditional Christians the ones who are “intolerant,” or are many on the secular left more deserving of that label? I’ve added it to our “Resources” section at right. Please read it, bookmark it, and tell your friends about it.
Now, it’s my turn to play prophet. Romney was the first Governor I saw on national TV yesterday rolling out in reponse to the foiled terrorist plot, and he was all over TV last night and is today. He is cancelling “campaign” events (HT: The Corner) Prediction: There will be a hue and cry from Romney’s political opponents that all this is presidental grandstanding, not actual governing of Massachusetts.
