Question of The Day: Who Wins If There’s A Mormon President?
Given that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was largely defined in its early days by persecution and fleeing from both state federal government power, would a Mormon president be a victory for the Mormon Church, or for America? For example, consider the “Extermination Order” issued by the Governor of Missouri, Lilburn W. Boggs, in 1838. The complete text of the order (which is unimaginable in present-day America), is here. Would it not be a testament to American values that a people who endured such official persecution early in their history could see one of their members elected president of the United States? Â

I’m not sure it would say as much about American values as much as it would be about his agenda.
I think America, in large part, is moving past judging people solely on religion, race, or other grounds. I do not wish to be judged because of my race, religion, or gender. I only seek to be judged by my actions and conduct - and endeavor to do the same.

Frankly, I think that everyone wins. Not just because it’s a sign of positive progress into true acceptance of good things rather than the constant craming of “tollerance” of bad things being shoved down our throat, but mostly because Mitt Romney will just do an astounding job in office.
The people win because he will truely revolutionize many much needed issues that have needed to be addressed for years. And yes, the LDS church members win because they will feel more accepted naturally. Also, some questions may finally be answered as to how we really are by the fact that Mitt will be a great example of the morality, integrity, and high standards that we are taught.
Mitt Romney is our last best hope of bringing our house in order. It just has to happen. Or, as the LDS church has counciled since it’s restoration, we will be using the food storages pretty soon that we have been saving up.
